Australia is in the grip of a terrible drought when tensions in the small town of Kiewarra become unbearable following the murder of three members of the same family. Everyone assumes Luke Hadler has committed suicide after killing his wife and son, but when his childhood friend, policeman Aaron Falk, returns for the funeral, he is drawn into the investigation. As suspicion spreads through the town, Falk is forced to confront a secret that he and Luke shared 20 years earlier.
What the book club thought: Despite initial responses, many of the group enjoyed this antipodean debut novel.
